SAP NetWeaver

SAP applications and systems form a software solution with which a company's business processes can be mapped and operated.

In addition to the traditional core applications such as FI/CO, SD, and HR, this also includes APO (Advanced Planer and Optimizer), BW (Business Warehouse), and CRM (Customer Relationship Management), as well as industry-specific modules and solutions.

The SAP NetWeaver architecture is the foundation for new SAP applications based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). For this purpose, the SAP R/3 or Enterprise Architecture was extended to include the SAP Web Application Server, which now features a J2EE server for Java in addition to the traditional SAP Application Server for ABAP. Moreover, the SAP Enterprise Portal and SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) provide central integration platforms which in some cases are core elements of the applications or will become core elements in subsequent releases.

theGuard! ApplicationManager monitors and analyzes the availability and performance of important SAP services.
Additionally, many metrics and settings of the SAP NetWeaver architecture can be directly displayed in lists. Moreover, theGuard! ApplicationManager already includes preconfigured rule sets for SAP NetWeaver monitoring.

Internet services and protocols

Internet services and servers like file, mail or web servers are frequently and directly used by end users or business-critical applications. The respective services are based upon standardized protocols that control the data exchange over the network (WAN and LAN).

The end-to-end availability and performance of these services are the key criteria that determine their business value. theGuard! ApplicationManager monitors these Internet services without agents by simulating user and application behavior using so-called probes.

This allows for the monitoring and analysis of web, file and mail servers on Windows, UNIX or Linux on the basis of the protocols http, https, FTP and SMTP without having to apply changes to the server itself.

Application logs – central source of many events

Most applications log their events in one or more files. Severe errors in particular can often only be found in those logs. An automated and easily configurable monitoring system guarantees rapid error detection.

The data collector allows companies to centrally monitor all of their log files according to various criteria. Here, a specific log is a managed object that can be individually processed.
