REALTECH presents new theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer

New software gives IT managers a bird's eye view of systems performance

Walldorf, August 27, 2002. - REALTECH, a leading provider of technology consulting and software solutions for applications and systems management, has announced the launch of its new product, theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer. This innovative tool for IT managers and corporate IT departments enables complete monitoring and documentation of compliance with Service Level Agreements. theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer complements REALTECH's existing portfolio of applications and systems management solutions. The new software, which is entirely browser-based, interoperates seamlessly with the other components of theGuard! System Management Suite.

Proving performance is up to scratch

Systems management software plays a key role in maximizing the availability of IT infrastructure. But to get the very best out of their applications and networks, IT managers also need to define Service Level Agreements-and ensure that they are complied with. This often presents those responsible for the systems environment with a problem: how to provide hard evidence that the performance specified in the SLAs has in fact been delivered. The new theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer monitors the performance of various system components in real time, and provides detailed reports of its findings.

The reports generated by theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer are based on data supplied by the installed components of theGuard! System Management Suite and checked against the relevant SLAs. SLA reports are provided for theGuard! NetworkManager, theGuard! SystemManagementPortal, theGuard! ApplicationManager, theGuard! Helpdesk, and theGuard! InventoryManager.

Rule-based monitoring

The user can enter the detailed conditions specified in Service Level Agreements in theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer. These may include primary and secondary service times and maintenance times, as well as rules for specific functions and infrastructure components. For example, in conjunction with theGuard! ApplicationManager, rules can be defined for the transaction performance of SAP applications, for application middleware, and for databases. For theGuard! NetworkManager, functions are available for monitoring the load on network components and the bandwidth of all monitored connections. With theGuard! Helpdesk, it is possible to monitor response and resolution times, and theGuard! InventoryManager enables a comparison between the maximum number of licenses available and the actual number required.

Selective reporting

Administrators can specify what service-level information is given in each report. For example, a report might state the number of logged in users, and show systems availability and response times. The freely definable reports can be tailored to various groups within an IT organization, such as companies, cost centers or regions. A calendar function helps users plan the regular distribution of reports.

Taking action when thresholds are exceeded

When metrics exceed specified service-level thresholds, the administrator can receive notification on screen or by text message. Escalation routines and procedures to be followed in response to such eventualities must be defined in detail.

Availability and prices

theGuard! ServiceLevelAnalyzer is now available for theGuard! ApplicationManager. Support for the NetworkManager, Helpdesk, InventoryManager and SystemManagementPortal will be added in December 2002. Prices for the tool start at 7950 euros.
